Abstract

By integrating scientific parks into sustainable development research, scholars can better understand the environmental and social impacts of technology innovation and commercialization, as well as the economic benefits that may arise from sustainable practices. Promoting sustainable development within industrial environments ultimately can lead to the development of more effective policies and management practices. Accordingly, this study aims to construct a conceptual model for sustainable development management in science and technology parks. The research employs a mixed exploratory methodology. In the qualitative phase, thematic analysis was used to identify the key components shaping sustainable development management in science and technology parks. Data collection was conducted through interviews, with sampling continued until theoretical saturation was reached—fourteen individuals participated in these interviews. In the quantitative phase, confirmatory factor analysis and interpretive structural modeling were used to design the conceptual model for sustainable development management in these parks. Data collection involved two questionnaires, which, after validity and reliability testing, were distributed among members of the statistical sample. The population for model validation consisted of all managers of science and technology parks, with a sample size of 181 participants. The qualitative findings revealed eight main themes and thirty-seven sub-themes. The results of the interpretive structural modeling in the quantitative phase demonstrated that the conceptual model of sustainable development management in science and technology parks comprises six levels. The component with the greatest impact was managerial commitment, while innovation and research and development showed the highest susceptibility within the conceptual framework.
